Cross That Bridge BEFORE You Come To It
Whoever came up with the expression, “I’ll cross that bridge when I come to it,” didn’t have a proactive mindset. When it comes to making a career for yourself in the theatre, living by that motto can be a downright foolish way to exist.
EXPECTING the bridge is a much better idea. That way, when you arrive at the bridge, you already know how you are going to cross it.
“I’ll cross that bridge BEFORE I come to it.”
If you have a dream role, start studying the part now. Don’t wait until the breakdown is posted. When the audition appointment comes through and you are sent 35 pages of sides, it will not be a big deal… because you have already prepared the material.
If you know you need X number of dollars per week in order to make an acting job financially feasible for you, don’t wait until the offer comes through to ask what the salary is. Read the rulebook before you accept the initial appointment. The minimum salary is right there in black and white.
If you want to pursue on camera work, start training now. Don’t wait until casting calls you with an appointment to enroll in a class. Give yourself the tools you need to succeed.
The time is now. Don’t wait. I’ll meet you at the other side of the bridge.
