Shereen Ahmed Is Eliza Doolittle

Today Shereen Ahmed will play Eliza Doolittle in the Broadway revival of My Fair Lady at Lincoln Center.

Most of us in the theatre industry, myself included, will never have the experience of being “the first” at anything we do. We may innovate, we may risk, we may disrupt, we may dare, we may defy, but we will never be the first.  We can only imagine and try to understand the fear, the joy, the weight, the pride, the self-consciousness, the awesome responsibility that comes with saying yes to being the first.

By its very nature, to be the first is to be a leader.

“If your actions inspire others to dream more, learn more, do more and become more, you are a leader.”
— Simon Sinek

Because of Shereen’s leadership, someone else will now have the chance to become more. Today is not about hashtags, marketing campaigns, optics, or any other PR bullshit. It is about the next generation of artists, those with big dreams who have desperately been searching for some proof that their dreams could become a reality. For some of those dreamers, today is the proof. And now they might dare to step forward and say, "I'm next."

Today Shereen Ahmed will play Eliza Doolittle on Broadway. And tomorrow.....? Well, anything is possible.
