The Two Most Important Words in Goal Setting
Meaningful goal setting.
It all comes down to two words…
“So that…”
We are at the beginning of the year, and many of you have declared resolutions, goals, or intentions for the next 12 months. I challenge you to go back to those goals, add the words “so that…”, and then complete the sentence.
What you’ll find is that there is actually a goal behind the goal. An intention behind the intention. A resolution behind the resolution.
I’ll show you an example from my own life:
“Create an online course in 2020.”
Yes, it is a goal. It is clear. But where is the purpose? Where is the meaning?
“Create an online course in 2020 so that more artists can find a sense of agency and pride in their careers.”
Aha. That is the REAL intention. It is about so much more than simply building a course.
Let’s do another one.
“Do more craft projects with my daughter in 2020.”
Again, it’s clear. But what is the purpose?
“Do more craft projects with my daughter in 2020 so that we build a family tradition of hand-making gifts for the people we love.”
So much better.
You get it.
So get to it.
Wow! I am so grateful to Simon Sinek for sharing this post so that we can all connect to each other. It is amazing to know that people from all across the globe are united in bringing more intention into our lives and our work. Thank you for being here. Here’s to an inspired, safe, and fulfilled 2020 for all of us.
xoxo,
